Children from the age of 2 years to 2 years 9 months attend Little
Ladybirds. Activities are age appropriate and every session is planned
carefully using the birth to three matters framework. A wide range
of activities are provided to encourage social interaction, language
and physical development. There are also opportunities for creative
and imaginative play and a circle time for stories and songs. Little
Ladybirds use the garden daily and a wide range of outdoor equipment
is provided. There are at least one adult for every four children
and parents are encouraged to help in sessions.

Children can join these sessions from the age of two years nine months.
Activities are planned using the government guidelines for the Foundation
Stage with the emphasis on play and fun. A keyworker is allocated to every
child and an appointment made to talk to parents. With parents permission
records of progress are kept which continue into the child's pre-school
year.

Children join these sessions at the beginning of their last year at
Ladybird's. The Foundation Stage curriculum is used and sessions planned
in detail to allow for individual development. However the emphasis is
still on play and fun in the belief that children learn best when they are
happy and enjoying themselves. Towards the end of the year visits to the
primary school, next door, are organised and teachers often visit
pre-school. A report is written for children when they leave and further
consultations with parents are organised. Records of children are only
sent to school with permission from parents.
Parents are
welcome to help at any of these sessions and there is a voluntary
rota.
Refreshments: Milk and water are provided at every
session with a snack of savoury biscuits and fruit.
Lunchtime: An optional lunch hour is available
for children attending ladybirds from age 3 and above. They need
to bring a packed lunch and a drink. The children will sit at small
tables with a member of staff and up to five other children. Lunches
maybe booked on the day or preferably in advance.
